Consider A VAPE Electronic Ignition
Electronic ignitions (EI) have come a very long way in the past 40 years
In fact, electronic ignitions is nothing new to British motorcycles or to our industry
The first (factory) electronic ignition fitted to a British motorcycle was called the Lucas “Rita”.. some of you may have one fitted
The Lucas "Rita" set the pace and changed the industry by replacing the old points system - typically fitted on late model Triumph T140 and TR7 750 models
Over the past 10 years we have seen various brands appear in the market offering there own unique pitch.. however, there is one type of ignition on the market today that stands out from the rest and is quickly making a name for themselves
This EI (electronic ignition) we are referring to is called the VAPE
Who is VAPE?
VAPE is a Czech Republic based company that specializes in making electronic ignitions for stock and custom applications
VAPE has a long track record of producing ignitions for various makes and models both modern and classic
Wassell (England) and VAPE are working in partnership to be able to offer a reliable and quality electronic ignition for our classic British motorcycles

Why VAPE?
In all honesty, VAPE ignitions work like any other ignition on the market today except for a few minor but very important details
CNC machined
VAPE ignitions are the only kit on the market today that features a CNC rotor and an encapsulated stator plate
This is important as all other EI kits on the market today expose all wires on the stator plate making them vulnerable to heat, debris and oil inside the timing the cover
Convenient black box
The pitfall with most kits is the large black box (module) that often times gets in the way when trying to find a place to mount
Both Micro MKI and Micro MKII kits come with a conveniently sized black box that can fitted nicely under seat or gas tank
Internal features
Arguably the most important aspect when it comes down to finding a good EI - the internal features
The Micro MKI VAPE ignition can work and function down to as low as 10V while the Micro MKII can dip down as low as 5V (with a 6V battery) and down to 10V (with a 12V battery)
Both MKI and MKII kits will work on singles and twins making VAPE kits very versatile
Kits / applications
As of 2020, there are currently 2 kits being offered by VAPE to fit both singles and twins including Triumph, BSA and Norton
- Micro MKI
- Micro MKII
Micro MKI
The Micro MKI kit offered by VAPE comes with everything you need to convert from your old points system
The caviate is that you must upgrade your charging system to 12V for this kit to work
This kit comes with the following..
- Detailed instructions
- Stator plate
- Rotor
- Wires / connectors
- Black box
If your motorcycle originally had points in a "side casing" (most unit construction models excluding the Commando) then our kits will work
Micro MKII
The Micro MKII kit offered by VAPE is almost identical to the Micro MKII and also comes with everything you need to convert from your old points system
Unlike the Micro MKI, the Micro MKII will work with both 6V and 12V electrical systems
Although the Micro MKII kit is slightly more than the MKI, this kit will save you more money down the road should you have a 6V application as you will not need to swap out coils, bulbs or stators to 12V
To be clear, this kit works with both 6V and 12V applications
This kit comes with the following..
- Detailed instructions
- Stator plate
- Rotor
- Wires / connectors
- Black box
If your motorcycle originally had points in a "side casing" (most unit construction models excluding the Commando) then our kits will work

Classic British Spares
@Cliff – VAPE will work WIHTHOUT a battery… in fact, that is the charging system, not the EI. You need a capacitor – see our Podtronics “battery eliminator” units
